Whether performing for the premier of a Nicholas Cage film, classical music with members of the Berlin Philharmonic, electronic music collaborations with The WIG, or jazz with electric violinists, Colin Thurmond is equally sought after as performer and composer. The Boulder Symphony recently commissioned Colin for a new orchestral work, the Concierto de Pampas, a duo concerto for guitar and percussion premiered in April 2011 with Colin himself as guitarist. Thurmond is currently pursuing his doctorate with Eliot Fisk at New England Conservatory, where he holds the Surdna Foundation Scholarship. He was also prizewinner in the Lamont Concerto Competition (2007) and grand prizewinner of the Lamont Chamber Music Competition (2009). He earned his M.M. in March 2010 after being awarded the Graduate Recital of Distinction.
