4-6pm: Festival participants will have the opportunity to meet each other as well as Artistic Director, Eliot Fisk, while enjoying food and refreshments. Live music will also be provided by current NEC students. (Pierce Hall)

Concert
8pm: Artyom Dervoed, 2010 Competition Winner; and John Gibbons (harpsichord), works of Frescobaldi, D. Scarlatti and J.S. Bach works in Italian style (Fenway Center)

THURSDAY June 16

Competition

Master Class
10am-1:30pm: Oscar Ghiglia master class (Pierce Hall)

Seminar
2:30-3:30pm: Baroque Performance Practice w/John Gibbons (Pierce Hall)
Distinguished keyboardist and Historical Performance professor John Gibbons will coach guitarists in the practice of baroque repertoire performance, including issues of style, content, and ornamentation. Festival participants are encouraged to bring in baroque guitar pieces to work on with Mr. Gibbons.

MFA Visit
4-6pm: Darcy Kuronen, the MFA’s Pappalardo Curator of Musical Instruments, will talk about and show off four rare and important Italian guitars in the collection, which include examples by Jacopo Checchucci (Livorno, 1628), Jacopo Mosca Cavelli (Perugia, 1725), Giovanni Battista Fabricatore (Naples, 1803), and Luigi Mozzani (Cento, about 1925). Recorded samples of three of these instruments will provide a sense of how they sound. Following this presentation in the Museum’s musical instrument gallery, students will have the opportunity to view other significant works of Italian art in the MFA’s collections, which include spectacular examples of paintings, sculpture, and decorative arts ranging from the Middle Ages through the nineteenth century.

8pm: Newman-Oltman Duo perform works by Rossini, Brouwer, and world premiere by Kampela; and Jude Gold (Electric Guitar) performs world premiere of new work by Anthony De Ritis for electric and amplified classical guitar with Eliot Fisk (Fenway Center)

FRIDAY June 17

SATURDAY June 18

Lecture
2:30-3:30pm: Dr. Hilary Poriss (Northeastern U.) Italian Opera and the Guitar (St. Botolph, Room 113)
Italian Opera Historian and Author, Hilary Poriss, will be presenting a lecture on influential Italian Operas, especially those that have been used as a basis for guitar works, including opera excerpts by Giuseppe Verdi and Gioachino Rossini.

Concert
8pm: Eliot Fisk, Zaira Meneses, and A Far Cry String Quartet, with special guest Oscar Ghiglia perform works by Vivaldi, Paganini, Berio, Martin, and Brahms (Fenway Center)

SUNDAY June 19

Master Class
10am-1:30pm: Oscar Ghiglia master class (Pierce Hall)
Selected guitar ensembles will have the opportunity to perform in the last day of master classes with Oscar Ghiglia.

North End Visit
1:30-3:30pm: Festival participants will spend time in Boston’s North End, well known for its Italian cultural influences. Participants will also have the opportunity to taste authentic Italian food and pastries.

4pm: Adult Performance Competition Final round (Fenway Center)

GuitarFest Closing Reception
6pm: Everyone involved with the Festival is invited to a closing reception for the announcement of the competition results, as well as enjoy great food and drinks! (Pierce Hall)
