Youth Performance Competition

We regret to inform you that the YOUTH competition (17 and younger) has been cancelled this year due to lack of participation. We apologize for any inconvenience that it has caused our potential competitors and are looking into ways to improve the participation of our youth in future festivals. Thank you for your continued support of our festival and we hope to see more of the next generation of guitarists next year!

2011 Composition Competition

The Winner of the Composition Competition for Boston GuitarFest VI 2011 is Jonathan Godfrey from Bloomington, Indiana, and his work “Sonatina for guitar solo”. Mr. Godfrey will receive a cash prize of $400 and a free 5-day registration for Boston GuitarFest 2012; his winning composition will be performed as part of Boston GuitarFest 2012.

The judges have also named three honorable mentions, presented here in alphabetical order: Ying-Chen Kao from Baltimore, Maryland, for his work, “Lila. Star. Bird.”, Marek Pasieczny from Zamosc, Poland, for “Sequenza”, and Luis Nieto Sachica from Bogotá, Colombia, now living Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, for “Reminisce.”

Special thanks to the Boston GuitarFest Composition Competition judges, Apostolos Paraskevas, Alexander Dunn, and Anthony Paul De Ritis.

And a large round of applause for the truly exceptional submissions that we received from the guitar composers community! This year we had 83 composers submit 120 works from 31 different U.S. states, Puerto Rico, and 11 different countries — there were so many wonderful compositions. Keep up the good work!

See guidelines for more info. For questions about the Composition Competition, contact Anthony De Ritis at [email protected].

  • Welcome, from Eliot Fisk!
Boston GuitarFest is the dream of visionary guitar virtuoso Eliot Fisk. While the main focus is always on the classical guitar, the festival also aims to set the instrument within a broader musical, cultural and social context.
