Concert

Moisés Fernández Vía
, piano (Spain); Grigory Goryachev, guitar (Russia/USA); Zaira Meneses, guitar (Mexico/USA)

This concert explores the fascinating relationship between Spanish piano music and the guitar. Interestingly enough, many of the piano works by Isaac Albéniz are today better known in guitar transcriptions than in the piano originals. In an interesting turn, this afternoon’s concert features De Falla’s own transcription for solo piano of his masterpiece for solo guitar, entitled Homenaje pour Le Tombeau de Claude Debussy performed by the brilliant Catalan pianist, Moisés Fernández Vía. Grisha Goryachev will play two works of Paco de Lucia, the great flamenco guitar genius who has revolutionized the art of flamenco so beloved by Manuel de Falla. Zaira Meneses and Goryachev will close this afternoon’s performance with Joaquin Rodrigo’s Tonadilla for two guitars which also celebrates the music of Spain.
